Project
Description:
You
will be working the process of reduction printmaking focusing on the design
elements of color, texture, space, and shape to complete three finished
projects. The principle you will be
working with is repetition to create structure.
The imagery for this project must be based on organic form.
You will need to bring 5 drawings based on organic form with you to the
next class period.
In
the first part of this project our focus is positive and negative space.
You will work in black and white. Please
follow closely the instructions for printing.
Using one of your drawings of organic form create at least 6 black and
white prints.
The
next step for this project is to now print your blocks in color and continue the
reduction process as discussed in class. Make
sure you create at least 10 color prints.
For
your final three projects please do the following: select the single print either black/white or color you feel
is your strongest and mount this on foamcore.
For you second piece select a number of black/white prints and mount them
or assemble them in someway into a single unified whole.
The first project on tessellation may help you in planning and thinking
about this. For your third piece
please assemble at least 6 of your color prints into a unified single piece.
Remember it is fine to cut up your prints and work with them in this
process.
·
Please follow carefully
the discussion in class on organic form, the printing process, the design
elements and principles we are exploring in this project.
The expectation is that you will create an interesting design with
balance, color, texture, space and pattern.
(You must consider positive and negative space.)
Please pay attention to the discussion in class regarding any and all
design terms. Take notes!
·
Please be prepared to
show your design explorations. Try
to have 3- 5 experiments. Use your
sketchbook. Don’t start the
finish form of this project until after you have spoken to me on Friday.
