Directions:  The following questions refer to the data for world population on the first page of the packet that you received on Friday.  Below are three pairs of years taken from the list of data.  For each pair given, you need to construct a sentence describing how the population has changed between those years.  For each pair you need to use a different sentence structure.  An example is given below using four different styles of sentence structure you can use.

Write your sentences on this piece of paper.  This will be collected at the start of class on Tuesday.

Example

Question:  Compare and contrast the population in the years 1250 and 1850.

Answer:  (Here are 4 possible ways to structure your sentences)

1.      From 1250 to 1850, the population of the world grew by about 0.86 billion people to reach 1.26 billion in 1950.

2.      In 1850, the population of the world was approximately three times as large as it was in 1250.

3.      Between 1250 and 1850, the population of the world tripled from 0.40 billion people to 1.26 billion people.

4.      In 1250, the population was approximately 0.40 billion people. Over the next 600 years, the population of the world grew by 0.86 billion people.
