Modified Listserv

The goal of this semester-long assignment is to give everyone the opportunity to have a voice, especially those students who are a bit shy in the face-to-face classroom. This listserv will also count as part of your lab hours.  Through the listserv, we’ll initiate dialogues among our class members about current events as well as grammar, vocabulary, and math.  In practical terms, what does this mean?  After we receive your e-mail addresses, we’ll set up an email mailing list and post articles, websites, questions, and other items related to our course.  You’ll respond to our posts and post your own articles, questions, and other items that you want to contribute to the discussion.  We will be acting as a moderator for these discussions.  We will post the initial listservs, but we will not be responding to each of your posts.  Check your e-mail on a regular basis because we may also assign homework or make special announcements via email, and we will send you notices when we update the grade book.  Here are a few guidelines:

1)     By 1/18/05, e-mail Professor Wilber (ewilber@mdc.edu) the following:

a.      Your full name

b.      ENC0020/MAT0020

2)     If you don’t e-mail this information, you won’t be able to participate in our listserv or log onto the grade book.  The listserv is part of your lab grade and is required for the portfolio.

3)     If you don’t have an e-mail address already set up at home, you can easily set up a free one and access it through the Computer Courtyard.

4)     Keep copies of all of your listserv contributions.  You may need to click to send your response to your sent folder or you should print out each of your responses.  You’ll need to include at least three of your most significant listserv contributions in your portfolio that’s due at the end of this semester (see Appendix F).  By “significant listserv contributions,” we mean those responses that demonstrate you’ve put a considerable amount of energy and thought into your on-line postings.

5)     Remember:  You must click “reply to all” when responding to one of our listserv e-mails so that all class members will receive your message.
