Description: The Green
River Community College Aduult Basic Education (ABE), English for Speakers of
Another Laguage (ESOL) and MATH Across the Curriculum (MAC) Project is focused
on successful student transitions from ESOL and basic skills to developmental
and college-level math. The three departments will work together to introduce
math language to students, lead basic and ESOL students through a math-related
project, and have students visit math classes at the college.
Project outline:
- ABE or ESOL teacher introduces project to the class.
- Math instructor visits class.
- Introduces Mathematics Curriculm Flowchart
- Gives lesson on reading table (GRCC Tuition table)
- (ABE~ include chart with tuition over x years)
- Homework/handouts
- Teacher prepares students for classroom visit.
- Students visit a math class.
- Students visit Math Learning Center (ABE only)
- Students report back about math class visit.
- Students write about experience.
