Health Statistics Sample Project Assessment:

 1. Scoring of two initial assignments (1^st survey + graph, 2^nd survey + graph) via rubrics:

• Rubric for initial assignment very simple, based on in-class teacher instructions, establishes benchmark understanding.

•  Rubric for second assignment more detailed- based on class discussions and lessons between assignments.

2. Reflection Paper

Questions to ask oneself while reflecting upon both assignments:

A. The Survey

• What was my learning goal when I did the 1^st survey? What was my learning goal when I did the 2^nd survey?

• How is my 2^nd survey different from my 1^st?

• How are the questions different?

• What are the changes I made?

• Why did I make these changes?

• How is the information (data) from my 1^st survey different from the data from my 2^nd survey?

• How successfully did my revised survey elicit the data I was looking for?

B. The Graph

• How is my 2^nd graph different from my 1^st?

• Why did I choose my 2^nd graphing method?

• Why is my 2^nd graph an improvement?

• Are there any other graph types I might have used?

• What is the advantage of my choice of graph?

C. In General

• After reflecting upon this project, how have these two assignments changed my understanding of survey design and data representation?

• What do I want to learn now?

3. Peer Assessment:

• Rubric created by students; compares and contrasts 2 assignments; assesses improvement in survey design and data representation.
