Level One Tasks

Level one tasks are basic building blocks for students.  These include but are not limited to  percentages, graph interpretation, and specific vocabulary and concepts relevant to increasing their comfort level with math and statistics.

Level one tasks will enable students to:

 a)  Demonstrate knowledge of mathematical terminology and apply this in related human services material.

 b)  Demonstrate quantitative reasoning via the ability to interpret data and graphs relevant to the field of human services.

 c)  Verbally articulate an understanding of the meaning of graphs and other mathematic representations vital to their understanding of research and probability.

 d) Participate in  group and tasks cooperatively

 e) Demonstrate ability to create graphs according to rubric discussed in class.

During the Introduction to Chemical Dependency course, students are provided tremendous amounts of research and data that they can not read well, and rarely understand.  There are basic concepts that they may have forgotten that could be illuminated in class activities that express the concepts in a more graphic or tactile way.

A mathematical-bio is collected the first day of class, so that the instructor has a base line for reviewing any changes in how each student perceives and reacts to the concepts and skills involved in mathematical calculations and interpretation.
