Assessments:

1. Students will submit spreadsheets from Excel lab, bibliography of Census data and library research, written report on the group project, verbal and visual presentation of group research and maintain a portfolio of all their work. Faculty will review the portfolio at the end of the quarter and provide written comments on student writing during the quarter.


2. Students and faculty will write a co-authored evaluation of the student’s work which will address the ways each student has demonstrated quantitative and qualitative learning in the program.


3. Faculty will write peer evaluations and self evaluations at the end of the quarter, examining the effectiveness of the learning plan.

Skills students should come away with:

Research skills: collaborative research (project, literature)
Critical reading
Field observation
Census data use
Basic graphing with Excel
Internet and library research
Academic expository writing and observational writing
