2007 AMATYC Summer Institute
August 7 - 10, 2007
Sleeping Lady Mountain Retreat
Leavenworth, WA

The 2007 Summer Institute will feature workshops given by experienced MAC3 faculty from Edmonds Community College, Seattle Central Community College, Miami Dade College, and other colleges. The institute also will provide the needed time and assistance for faculty to create projects and assessments for their classroom. Participants may choose to create and work on any part of the curriculum, from one-day modules to entirely new courses that combine mathematics / quantitative reasoning and other disciplines. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend in interdisciplinary teams and to have a proposed or existing project to work on at the institute.

The Institute, to be held August 7-10, 2007, will be the third annual MAC3 summer institute hosted by AMATYC. These institutes are based on five annual Math Across the Curriculum summer institutes previously hosted by Edmonds Community College. The registration fee is only $100 and includes food and lodging (triple occupancy) for four days and three nights. Participants will receive a $60/day stipend to develop curriculum during the four-day institute

Resources for Participants

Institute participants will have access to the following resources:
  • Computer & Web Access
One of the advantages of the Sleeping Lady Conference Center is that Web access is available in every room. Furthermore, we have the ability to network a lab of approximately 20 laptop computers to the internet. Although computers will be available, participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops. At the institute, one large room will be set aside for work at all times with computers, printers and Web access.

  • Experienced Faculty & MAC3 Coordinators
In attendance at the conference will be faculty from around the nation who have already created and implemented MAC3 projects in their classrooms.

  • Concrete Examples of Successful MAC3 Projects
During the institute participants will be able to view posters describing MAC3 projects that have already been implemented.

  • Assistance in creating web-publishable materials
During the institute, faculty will be able to receive individual help with language, presentation, and technical issues related to preparing curricula to be published on the web.
