Grading Rubrics

Student Assessment Methods

The student will produce lab reports that follow the appropriate scientific conventions and standards.  Each lab report will adhere to the following outline:

  1. Introduction
  2. Methods and materials
  3. Data and results
  4. Statement of Hypothesis (H0 and H1)
  5. Statement of conclusion(s) in correct statistical language
  6. Conclusion(s) in correct standard English
  7. Literature cited

The student will conduct a final project of his/her own design.  In addition to the lab report, the student will present his/her findings to the class.  This presentation must include visuals that aide the audience’s ability to understand the presenter’s original research question, his/her null and alternative hypotheses, process, and results.
 
From the course syllabus for Methods:
“Evaluation: Your grade will be computed in the following manner.
            Lab reports:                        50%
            Reports on investiagtions:   30%   
            Major Research Project:   20%
We understand that you may be a complete novice when it comes to producing lab reports.  However, we expect to see continuous improvement in your ability to write your reports.  We expect that at the start of this course, you may have to rewrite and resubmit your reports.”
