Discovering Math Expressions

For each week’s readings we will have a class session dealing with the math connections and content in the reading. We will do this with the entire class for the first reading and in seminar for subsequent readings. Bring examples of math expressions that you found in the readings. Three for each reading is enough, but if you find only one, bring one.

For example:

What math expressions (quantities, connections, comparisons, equations, etc.) do you find in Andrew Light’s article? For example, how does Light quantitatively describe issues of population growth?

We will share these ideas for math expressions in smaller groups. This is a time for developing them and clarifying them with more description, if necessary.

Then, we will report these math expressions to the larger group. The math problems found in the readings, along with the names of the student(s) who found them will be kept in class on our “Wall of Math Expression”.

Staple your math connections to the back of your seminar response paper for that reading.
